STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity president is one of only 12 students from across the nation to receive the 2023 North American Interfraternity Conference Undergraduate Award of Distinction.

Ryan McMinn, a senior from Collierville, Tennessee, is being recognized for leadership and service shown throughout his collegiate career. As the MSU Interfraternity Council Chapters’ director of programming, McMinn helped organize the first post-pandemic event—a cooking competition that brought together fraternity and sorority members. The PIKE leader previously served his fraternity in philanthropic efforts and external relations, and the group received Starkville Main Street Association’s 2022 Volunteer Group of the Year Award for its community work.

A mechanical engineering major and member of the president’s list, McMinn serves also as a part-time worker in the MSU Office of General Counsel.

“Ryan represents the best of PIKE with a personal commitment to academics, community service, campus involvement and his own active leadership within the Mississippi State chapter. Ryan has earned the respect of his peers, the Mississippi State administration and our international fraternity,” said Justin A. Buck, Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity’s executive vice president. “The success of this chapter, which has initiated nearly 2,500 men and today has an active member count of 114, can be attributed to the earnestness of the many brothers of Gamma Theta and with the leadership Ryan has shown as chapter president.”

John Michael VanHorn, director of MSU Fraternity and Sorority life, said McMinn “is a great student leader and has contributed not only to his chapter, but the entire fraternity and sorority community during his time at MSU.”

“Ryan has been a great representative of the university and worked hard during his time in leadership roles to help fellow students have a positive and successful college experience,” he said.
